Hi James and Len and Lorraine - it seems we are all searching the family of LANGOULANT! From Charles Henri Louis Langoulant from France. I am enquiring on behalf of my Aunt who lives in Western Australia. I believe quite a lot has already been done on the family. Let me know if you are interested in getting in touch.

Thankyou for the opportunity to be a guest. I will be looking for details of Henri Louis Langoulant, a Frenchman, descended from jewellers in Paris, who deserted a whale boat in Albany about 1835, Western Australia, and after taking up a job as a lime burner, went to Bendigo during the gold rush from about 1852 for eight years.

Hi,
I am just beginning to research my ancestor Henry Alger who I believe built Happy Jack's Emporium/Store in 1862 in Lockwood. He and his wife had 12 children and I believe that two of the children died in a drowning. Any information would be appreciated. Thank you!

Interesting site and a great library with very helpful staff.I am researching my family history of the Pinder family. My Grandfather Valentine was the son of Thomas Henry Pinder born 1859 and Bridget Maria Gould who were marreid in 1881.Thomas's father and mother were Thomas Henry born 1826 and a Lavinia Maynard born 1829. I beleive it was a lrage family and I believa Stephen Pinder was a dental technician and there is a connection to a photographer in the family who worked out of Bendigo.Happy to hear share any infromation.

Great site.
Am interested in any information on the disappearance of a Hugh Mackenzie in or about late 1849 early 1850. He was a hawker who used to visit the gold fields but after leaving his 8 bullocks and dray in the care of a Donald Campbell, Argyle Hotel, Bullock Creek Marsh near Kangaroo Flat (advertisements in The Argus (Melbourne) on Friday 9th March (page 3) and 16th March 1849 (page 3) he just disappeared. Was his disappearance reported in any of the local papers, or was there ever an inquest into his disappearance is not known. No death certificate appears to have been ever issued. Family memoirs just record him as having disappeared on the goldfields.
Thanks if anyone can provide any additional info; it would be very appreciated.

Hi Andrew, I am trying to track a Francis Quin born in 1840 (from marriage 7 death certs). His death certificate said that his father was Barney Quinn but no mother given. He was married at Wollombi NSW in 18
67. He gives his occupation as goldminer & family tradition says that he was on the goldfields as a blacksmith. any help would be appreciated as otherwise he appears to have arrived in Australia from space. AnnetteAndrew Quin says...

I recently found some information about my GG Grandfather, EDMUND CHARLES CLARK.
He died in 1905, in his will he left left a piece of land, being part of a crown allotment, in Wattle Street Bendigo. On wihich was a 6 roomed weatherboard and brick house, built aprox 30 years previously. Value 450 pds.
Savings in the Bank of Bendigo 15 pds, 17 shilings 8 pence.
Savings in Bendigo Building Society 50 pds. interest of 3 pds 3 shillings, 11 pce.

I think his son, also Edmund, went on to also become a builder in the area.

It seems he may have been quite a wealthy man of his time, and a builder, so I assume he must have advertised in a local paper.

Can anyone tell me what paper it might have been and where the fishe of it may be kept? Any help would be appreciated.

I Barbara. I am also a descendant of Louis (Henri) Langoulant, and have recently begun researching him. I have amassed quite a lot of information about his movement and life in Western Australia. Records have named him as 'Henri Langoulant', 'Louis (Henri) Langoulant', and 'Louis John Charles Langoulant'. I believe 'Henri' may have been a nickname or a middle name. 'John' & 'Charles' I think are more english names, so he may have added those two middle names himself in an attempt to fit in with the colony.
I have a lot more information which I can send you.
I am also interested in you comment that he is descended from 'jewellers in Paris'. So far I have been unable to find any information about his ancestors, so if you have any of that information, I would love to hear it.

Hi everyone,
I have lots of family history interest in the Bendigo region.
Including:
O'BRIEN and JOYCE - Lockington, Rochester & district
SMITH and FULLERTON - Elmore, Lockington
POTTER - Heathcote, Rushworth
ELLIS, McCARTHY, GILMORE - Heathcote

At the moment I am concentrating my research on my FULLERTON ancestors as it will be 170 years in 2010 since their arrival in Australia and a family reunion is tentatively planned for the weekend of 16-17 October 2010. See www.fullertonfamily.info
I would love to hear from any other descendants of William FULLERTON and Mary DUNNE.

Regards,
Aillin

Hi Sue, do you refer to Thomas b.1882 d.1952?

I have two Thomas Doldings on my tree. the first was born in 1845 and died in 1871 and married Ann Elizabeth Broadway. The second was their son who was born and died in 1867.
